My day with the Maintenance team at Cheval Thorney Court

Cheval Thorney Court offers some of our largest and most spacious apartments at 2,500 square feet / 232 square meters which is more than 12 times the size of your average hotel room! This residence embodies classic English charm and is located on the border of Kensington Gardens. Being our most seasoned residence, it embodies a charismatic flair that would only feel right in London. Cheval Thorney Court like the 7 other Cheval Residences is unique and embodies the same customer ethos and excellent service levels we are renowned for throughout the Group.

I spent a day with Maintenance Supervisor, Les, and team-mates Bono, Martin and Darren in the maintenance department and learnt just how a well-oiled machine like this residence operates. Les’ time at Cheval started 5 years ago when he was employed on a temporary maintenance cover, and quickly impressed to become a permanent fixture. He enthuses over the big changes that have happened to this residence over the past few years, particularly the change in the minimum number of nights a guest can stay lowering from 3 months to just 1 night.

Les’ role is very hands on, he utilises the logistics of our intricate reservation booking system, cross-checking guest arrivals and departures with any apartments needing some special TLC. The team work very closely with our housekeeping department to regulate the building and when a guest checks out, a thorough assessment is carried out to ensure the apartment meets our Cheval standards. In preparation for a new arrival, the apartment receives a fresh lick of paint (if required), all electrical goods are tested, security is reviewed, lights are checked, balconies are inspected and even the hot water temperature is measured! So much care and thought goes into the process to ensure everything is in perfect working order.

After the morning Management meeting, I had the privilege of my own private tour! One of my favourite parts of going behind the scenes at our residences each month is seeing the parts of the building I typically don't get to see on a day to day basis. I had the opportunity to view the smallest and the largest apartments at Cheval Thorney Court and I was truly blown away, even the smallest was huge! We climbed to the roof and we could see as far as The Shard, Battersea Park, The London Eye and we even spied on Cheval Gloucester Park, our sister residence, from afar!

After all the internal sightseeing and a nice stroll past Kensington Gardens, I stopped for a tasty lunch at Whole Foods and a smoothie on Kensington High Street, then it was back to business. The afternoon was spent ordering air conditioning units, repairing a washing machine fault and visiting two of our in house guests to replace light bulbs.

I really enjoyed getting to see how hard the Maintenance team work to keep our most senior residence in full working order and seeing how much time, care and heart they put into their daily routines. I can’t wait to come back and see what the boys are up to soon!
