Exclusive Rum celebrates Jamaican Indepence 50th Anniversary

Back on 6th August 1962, the British flag was lowered in Jamaica for the last time, and the Jamaican flag was raised to end its 307 years as a British Colony. And now, to mark the 50 years of independence, the Appleton Estate Jamaica Rum which has been creating the fiest rum in the country since 1749 has proudly introduced the world's oldest barrel aged rum, the Appleton Estate 50 Year Old Jamaica Independence Reserve.

This £2,815 special edition golden rum, limited to just 800 bottles, comes encased in a had-crafted crystal decanter which denotes etchings inspired by Jamaica's national symbols. Described to be a hand-blended and exceptionally smooth, deep mahogany sipping rum, it has powerful notes of cinnamon, toated oak, almond, maple and vanilla resonated with a distinguished hint of orange peel, which is notably the hallmark of all Appleton Estate Jamaican Rum. 

This special edition rum has been produced from a blend of rums carefully aged in american oak barrels for almost half a century, under the wathful eye of Master Blender Owen Tulloch, and his protégé and Appleton Estate's current Master Blender, Joy Spence. Notably, each barrel was set down over 50 years ago with a specific vision to celebrate the 50th anniversary of Jamaican Independence.

Cheval Three Quays Marks Remembrance Day with a donation to the British Legion

Crowds gather to witness the nightly ceremony at the Tower of London. To mark the centenary of the end of the First World War, Cheval Three Quays has pledged to donate a week’s profits from two of its apartments facing the Tower of London to the Royal British Legion charitable fund. The Royal British Legion provides lifelong support for the Armed Forces community – serving men and women, veterans and their families. Many of the building’s apartments face directly onto the 1,000 year-old castle, offering a unique perspective of the moving tribute taking place until the 11 th  November, as 10,000 flames are lit in the moat on a nightly basis.
