How to live like a true Londoner

Image
London is a special place, a playground for anyone and everyone. Some of us are lucky enough to live in this beautiful metropolis and 17 million others visit us each year. We here at Cheval aim to share our favourite things about London with you be it food, culture or lifestyle, here’s how to live like a true Londoner this Autumn. London is a busy place and sometimes it’s faster and easier to get around town with the underground but remember to stand on the right when escalating down! For a more scenic route consider a black taxi cab. Fish and Chips is a British staple, however not all are created equally! If staying at Cheval Calico House or Cheval Three Quays in the eastern parts of town you must stop by Poppies (http://bit.ly/1topZ17) for London’s best fish and chips, or stroll over Tower Bridge for breath taking views over the Thames river. London is also renowned for culture. If visiting Cheval Harrington Court, Cheval Knightsbridge, Cheval Hyde Park Gate, Cheval Gl...

Café Culture near the new Cheval Harrington Court

Image
With the exciting new arrival of Cheval Harrington Court due to open in less than 3 weeks, we have compiled together a local list of our favourite cafes in the South Kensington area to sink your teeth into when staying with us.  CafĂ© culture in and around South Kensington has in the last few years blossomed with an abundance of diversity and choice. Refined and sophisticated by the French community; the historical landmarks and museums of South Kensington, Patisseries and coffee houses play home to many artistic extroverts while emulating the atmosphere found in the coffee houses of central Europe.   Such local establishments have an ambiance more intimate than our favourite high street chains. The coffee served is roasted and readied by those who choose to make a career out of this culture. The V&A CafĂ© Stop by the V&A CafĂ© for a quick bite after visiting the brilliant and historical museum itself. With offerings of English cream tea and scones, fluffy mering...

Time is most definitely money

Image
We all know time is money especially when staying in a busy metropolis. Cue ‘Ziferblat’, an eccentric pay per minute cafĂ© experience offering free coffee and wifi in exchange for a mere five pence per minute. The quirky East London cafĂ© obscurely named after ‘clock face’ in Russian, requires guests to borrow an eclectically quaint alarm clock, take note of arrival time and set the alarm for the desired ‘clock out’ time before paying their pennies on exit. Seen as a social experiment, ‘Ziferblat’ aims to build a community of people who want to use their space ‘to create something interesting’, allowing customers to do whatever they like as long as they respect the building and the people within it. Consumers are encouraged to be themselves; to work, to create art, to read or to get acquainted with likeminded people. The cafĂ© aims to be a home away from home just like us at Cheval Residences with each visitor devel...

London picnicking.

Image
Why not picnic in one of London’s sun kissed parks this Spring time? London’s very own Harvey Nichols and Harrods both offer gorgeous picnic hampers to enjoy featuring quaint crackers, creamy cheeses and tangy marmalades, to name just few. If you’re feeling adventurous why not visit Whole Foods market on Kensington High Street to make up a hamper of your own and then mosey on over to the beautiful Kensington Gardens? Kensington Gardens shares its home with Hyde Park separated only by the Serpentine Lake. If the children behave themselves why not treat them to a ride on a pedal boat after your scrumptious picnic treats? The gardens also pay tribute to the Princess Diana of Wales with a memorial playground featuring an impressive wooden pirate ship for the kids to enjoy. A bronze statue of Peter Pan also sits by the lake inspiring kids to ‘never grow up’ and stay young at heart. Harvey Nichols, Whole Foods market and Kensington Gardens are all just a short walk away from Che...

British Tea House Camellia's creates breathable tea

Image
Cheval Residences is as British as tea time! Come and discover London with us. After inhalable vitamins and caffeine, a gourmet tea shop in London has created breathable tea that’s supposed to deliver antioxidant properties more quickly to the bloodstream. Created by Camellia’s Tea House and spotted by trend hunter Springwise , the vaporized tea experience was demonstrated at the Experimental Food Society Spectacular 2013 this month, a group that fronts creative, culinary pioneers and “food magicians.” For the breathable tea, the beverage was vaporized and served as a smoky gas which testers could inhale through a straw — an alternative tea experience billed as a way to avoid burned tongues and deliver the drink’s health benefits more effectively. Camellia’s Tea House describes itself as an artisanal shop where loose leaf teas are hand blended. Opened by a sister and brother duo with combined backgrounds in homeopathy and molecular biology, the tea boutique takes a t...

Hispania - Spanish Restaurant in The City, London

Image
Hispania Cheval Calico House is near Hispania Restaurant in The City. Hispania is a new, high ceilinged, vault-like restaurant in the centre of the Square Mile, and yet it has captured the comfort and warmth of an intimate, long-time favourite taverna. The dining room is beautifully lit and a golden glow fills the space; seating is spaced in that way that makes you feel in the middle of the buzz without being overlooked or overheard. The menu politely carries some reliable tapas dishes, but doesn’t shy away from bolder choices and the less familiar. The IbĂ©rican ham is sublime – opt for the hand carved when you order, and the cheese board is a really strong selection of fine Spanish cheeses. The team advises that we try both the Ham and Hispania variants – the latter a punchier, meatier version but both fried golden brown with a delicious crunch. The Gambas Al Ajillo are crispy and pungent with the garlic – really addictive. But here is the shining star: Arroz...

London Fun Facts: The best things in the city that no one knows about!

Image
What are the best things to do in London that no one knows about? We got you curious right? Ian Wright is a Canadian expat living London since September 2010 and a Londoner in the heart. His love for the city and curiosity made him ask himself and others, what were London's little secrets. We found it rather interesting, check it out: The London Eye - "Between 3am and 4am (usually, weather permitting), the London Eye is put in to a self-cleaning cycle and rotates at about 6RPM. That doesn’t sound like a lot, but that’s one revolution every 10 seconds! It gets all the rain, dust, grime etc off, all the mud etc ends up in the thames. They don’t “offically” allow you to ride it in this time, but slipping the cleaners (who aren’t the normal ride operators) £20 will get you on one of the pods. It’s a hell of a rush but it's only a matter of time until someone gets hurt and they stop this." Celebrity Spotting -  "Celebrity Spotting in London is a ...

Enough said, here is the list of the best Christmas Lights sites in London. Carnaby Christmas 2013: The Year of the Robin The 13 streets that make up this prime west Soho shopping area always make a fuss for Christmas - and this year is no exception.
